Go on – Have a go!!
We can arrange with you to put on a ‘have-a-go’ session at a suitable location of your choice. We can only accept group bookings of up to twelve people for insurance and safety purposes. For further details on our next sessions, drop us a line.
Arranged by the Staff & Volunteers, Positive Pathways went and ‘Had-a-go’ at trying the ancient skill of archery.
Safety First
The session started with a safety briefing. This was done by a qualified Archery Instructor with over 20 years experience as an Archery Instructor, who has just re-qualified for a further 3 years. Well Done!
The safety briefing included where to point the pointy sticks, where and how to stand, protective equipment, how to handle the sporting equipment safely. We covered basic commands to ensure range and person safety but to also aim for having a safe but fun session.
Our volunteers also learned various names of parts of the equipment used, such as nocks, nocking point, vanes, riser, and limbs for example. We then got everyone strapped into their safety gear as string slaps hurt and can leave a nice sized bruise. Needless to say we don’t want this for any of our volunteers, we want them to come back!
Certificates
In the following workshop session, each volunteer was presented a certificate of achievement for the session. It may look like pure fun, which it is, but also has a lot of health benefits to it including:
- Helping to improve focus
- Increases core upper body strength
- Raises fitness
- Helps with basic maths skills
- Aids hand-eye coordination
- Encourages and grows social interaction skills
- Gives a confidence boost
- Communication skills such as listening skills
We could go on about the positive aspects of archery, but we think you get the point. no pun intended!
Well done to all those who have attended the archery sessions. Remember, Everyone Misses!
We hope to be able to put more sessions on like this one, but finding venues to accommodate and that are affordable to the charity are few and far between. If you know anywhere, please drop us a line.
